Dear Students and Parents:

Welcome to South Albany High School!  The home of the Rebels is changing in 2006-07 and we are excited to begin the new year.  A new school year always offers the opportunity for a new beginning, a chance to meet new people and a chance to gain new success.  2006-07 will be unlike any year at South as we begin our new trimester schedule to allow more instruction and more connection between staff and students.  We also will enter into the inaugural year of the Mid Willamette Conference for our athletic and activity programs.  It is a year of change and excitement so get ready to display your “Rebel Pride” at South Albany High!

We are pleased to have added several new teaching staff members to our already outstanding educator team here at South.  Additions to our Business, Industrial Technology, Music, Language Arts, Art, P.E. and Social Studies teams will continue to expand and support student opportunity for outstanding instruction, attainment of life-long skills and connection with opportunities beyond high school graduation.  As you encounter them, please welcome our new staff to our family.  Of note is the addition of our new Assistant Principal, Mr. David Jacobson.  Mr. Jacobson is replacing Mr. John Hunter who was appointed to an Elementary Principal position in our district.  Though Mr. Hunter will be missed, Mr. Jacobson brings a strong background in teaching and supporting students.  We welcome his addition.  Finally, the addition of a fourth counselor this year will allow our staff to better connect with and support your student in their quest for success in their outstanding high school experience.

Students will see some physical changes at South this year as we have completely revamped our Career Center to increase student opportunity for accessing information about colleges, scholarships, internships, job shadows and career choices.  The center will be staffed all day and will be a real plus for our students.  The Class of 2006 made a graduating gift to South by purchasing new scoreboards for our gymnasium.  Added to our new sound system installed last year, this creates a facility to be proud of in “Rebel Country.”  The addition of “turf” to our weight-room multipurpose area completes this state-of –the-art facility providing additional activity space for our students.

South Albany High School continues to move forward, providing the best possible high school experience for our Rebel families.  We look forward to your being a part of our continued success!

With “Rebel Pride”
